What are web standards, and why do they matter?
“Web standards” are coding practices that guarantee:
- Your website will render properly in all browsers, past, present, and future.
- Users with disabilities (vision impairments) or irregular browsers (small PDA-sized & cell phone screens, text-only, voice-only) can still access your website and it’s content.
- The code is clean and can be easily understood by search engines, improving search engine placement.
- Our Commitment to this can be seen at the bottom of every HydraCMS Managed Page.
How is using HydraCMS different than using MS FrontPage?
In reality, HydraCMS is very similar to FrontPage in that both are designed to be used by the average consumer. However, HydraCMS is much more advanced than FrontPage in several ways:
- HydraCMS does not require any previous technical knowledge, including HTML. The interface is built to act like a standard word processor, and then automatically converts the content to the correct web format.
- HydraCMS is more secure in that there are less steps involved. Because the user signs into site directly, there is no need to interact directly with the server, which protects both the site and the server.
Does HydraCMS require the user to have any previous website experience or technical knowledge?
- No. The beauty of HydraCMS is that anyone can use it, regardless of skill level. Through the use of our templating system, we have created an interface that allows you to enter content, and when you submit it, it automatically creates to the site in the appropriate format. In addition, you also have the satisfaction of seeing your content updated in real-time – no more waiting around for a webmaster or technician to “get around to it.” Essentially, we have done most of the work so you don’t have to.
I understand that the process is easy, but doesn’t the fact that I have to do the editing myself just create more work for me?
If maintaining a website is something you do not ever want to have to touch, then a static site would probably serve your needs better. If, however, you want a dynamic site that allows for updates, then HydraCMS is the best option you can choose:
- Better use of resources – by allowing the average user the ability to manage their own content, you free up your own technical personnel to concentrate on network security and computer maintenance.
- Better value – the average cost of a technical consultant is $80.00/hour. Using HydraCMS allows you to do more without adding personnel or bringing in expensive outside sources.
What is the difference between User Permissions and Page Edit Permissions?
While, both types of permission are essentially a part of the same system, in practice, the uses are slightly different:
- Through the use of the User Management Module, you can create and assign a hierarchy to control workflow. Within this structure, you can assign page edit permissions for certain pages to certain people.
- Once a page edit permission have been assigned, only those people may go in and make changes to that particular page, although all pages will be visible to everyone.
- The exception to this rule applies to the site administrator, who has access to everything.
